I am currently a junior at the rather prestigious Sacred Heart Preparatory in Atherton, CA. My GPA from freshman, sophmore, and junior year average to about 3.85, and have, in my three years at Sacred Heart, taken 3 AP classes and 6 Honors courses. Next year I will be taking four APs. While my grades are not up to par with the average Columbia student, I (hopefully) make up for it in extracurriculars. I have been a Girl Scout for 12 years, having earned both my Bronze and Silver awards, and will earn my Gold Award in early September. I am the leader of the Young Democrats Club, as well as IRIS, our gay-straight alliance. I sing for the campus ministry choir, which sings at the school masses and weekly prayer services, and I was a member of Advance Choir for both freshman and sophomore years (I would still be a member were it not for the program's cancellation). I have a rather full acting resume, beginning at age five to my current age, 15, including credentials such as the San Francisco Shakespeare Company. I was a member of the GATE (Gifted and Talented Enrichment) program every year prior to starting high school. I have qualified every year since sixth grade for the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth program, and was nominated for the National Leadership Summit. For the past four years, I have done a service trip to Peru to build homes and teach children, and have started a charity, raising money to send the impoverished children that I work with to private schools. I am a member of two a capella groups, and have recieved numerous awards for academic achievement, community service, and my commitment to the arts. Also, I studied abroad in Chile for a month and a half, and I am proficient in both Spanish, French, and German, the latter two self taught. I recently earned a 2030 on my SATs and will retake them in the fall. Am I a good fit for Columbia?... Read More »
